BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD

Good questions.

Here’s what to expect from the desktop app.

Why should I use clipPlay Desktop instead of the web version?

clipPlay Desktop runs 100% locally on your machine. This unlocks resolutions up to 4K 60fps, higher download speeds without web server queues, auto-clipboard monitoring, and unlimited downloads directly to your disk.

Do I need to install any separate tools or software?

No. ClipPlay Desktop includes all required media processing components built-in. Everything works immediately out of the box with zero terminal commands or setup needed.

Is clipPlay Desktop completely free to use?

Yes! ClipPlay Desktop is 100% free, requires no account or subscription, and contains zero advertisements.

How does the auto-clipboard detection feature work?

When enabled in Preferences, clipPlay monitors your system clipboard in the background. If you copy a video link from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter/X, a subtle prompt appears asking if you'd like to download it immediately.

Where are my downloaded videos saved?

By default, files are saved directly into your ~/Downloads/ClipPlay directory. You can customize the destination folder anytime in Preferences.

Why does macOS show 'Apple could not verify ClipPlay' on first open?

macOS Gatekeeper shows a one-time verification prompt for apps downloaded directly from official developer sites. To open in 5 seconds: Go to Applications in Finder, Right-Click (or Control-Click) ClipPlay, and select 'Open'. You only need to do this once!
